Embracing Light's Ascendancy
“The Light we see , is not always the light we give.” — Wendy
Physical Setting & Preparation
Find a space that receives direct sunlight, whether through a window or outdoors if the weather permits. Arrange before you symbols of growing light: a candle or small mirror to reflect sunlight, fresh green leaves or sprouts, and if possible, a yellow or gold stone or crystal. Add a small dish of water to reflect the light. Sit comfortably with your face turned slightly toward the sun, allowing its warmth to touch your skin. Position your hands palms up on your thighs or knees, open to receiving the increasing light. Take twenty-one deep, expansive breaths—one for each day that has passed in this month—allowing each inhale to fill you with light and each exhale to expand that light throughout your being

Opening Invocation | Fosgladh
Air an aona latha fichead den Mhàrt,An dèidh cothromachd an earraich,Nuair a thòisicheas an solas a' buannachadh,Tha mi a' gabhail ri cumhachd na grèine a' fàs.A Mhàthair na talmhainn, fosgail mi don t-solas.
On this twenty-first day of March,After the spring equinox,When light begins to prevail,I embrace the growing power of the sun.Mother of the earth, open me to the light.
Feel the significant energy of March 21st—the first full day after the spring equinox when light officially begins its ascendancy over darkness. The balance has tipped, and now each day will grow perceptibly longer than the night. This mirrors the experience of emerging from any challenging period—the moment when you sense that light has begun to prevail over shadow in your life. Notice the quality of sunlight around you, how it seems more confident, more established in its growing strength. Visualize this same quality of increasing light within you, illuminating internal spaces that have been in shadow during winter's necessary introspection.
Body of the Working | Corp
Tha solas a' fàs mar misneachd a' tighinn,A' sgaoileadh tro gach ceàrnaidh dorcha.Tha e a' teagasg dhuinn fàs le dànachd,Mar a dh'fhàsas lusan a dh'ionnsaigh na grèine.
Growing light is like returning confidence,Spreading through every dark corner. It teaches us to grow with boldness,As plants grow toward the sun.
If sunlight is directly available, place your hands in it, feeling its warmth on your skin. If not, light the candle and hold your hands near its flame. Feel the radiant energy of fire and light—the manifestation of the sun's power on earth. This is the gift of the Mother Earth and Father Sky working in partnership, creating the conditions for all life to flourish in the growing season ahead.
Now, bring your awareness to your body. Where do you feel the most receptivity to light and growth? Perhaps in your chest as an opening, in your face as it turns naturally toward brightness, or in your mind as clarity replaces confusion. As you locate these sensations, acknowledge them as signs of your natural alignment with the earth's seasonal shift. With each breath, imagine this light expanding further through your entire being—not forcing its way into resistant places, but gradually and persistently illuminating them, just as the spring sun melts frost and snow through consistent rather than sudden warmth.
The Deep Working | An Obair Dhomhain
A Mhàthair na talmhainn, thoir orm faireachdainn do ghaol,A' dòrtadh a-nuas mar sholas na grèine.Teagaisg dhomh mar a dh'fhosglas mi,Mar a dh'fhosglas flùr don mhadainn,Gun eagal, le earbsa a-mhàin.
Mother of the earth, let me feel your love,Pouring down like sunlight.Teach me how to open,As a flower opens to the morning,Without fear, with only trust.
Dip your fingertips in the dish of water and watch how it captures and reflects the light. Close your eyes and imagine yourself standing in a sun-drenched meadow. The grasses around you glow golden-green in the morning light, and dewdrops on their blades scatter tiny rainbows in all directions. The air is perfectly warm and vibrant with life force.
In this sacred space of growing light, you sense the Mother of the Earth approaching. She wears a crown of spring flowers that seem to radiate light from within, and her face glows with the same gentle radiance as the meadow around you. In her hands, she carries a small golden bowl filled with what appears to be liquid sunlight.
"This is the time of emergence and expansion," she speaks, her voice harmonizing with birdsong around you. "The light that grows outside mirrors the light that grows within. Both require your conscious participation—your willingness to turn toward brightness even when shadows still linger."
She offers you the golden bowl. "Drink the light," she invites. As you do, warmth spreads through your entire body, illuminating you from within. You can feel it flowing to places that have been cold, contracted, or hidden—not forcing them open, but inviting them to unfurl at their own pace.
"Many fear their own brightness," she continues, "having been taught that humility means diminishment. But true humility is knowing your place in the great web of light—neither exaggerating nor denying your unique capacity to shine."
She guides you to a place in the meadow where early spring flowers are opening to the sun. "Watch how they respond to light," she instructs. "Not with effort or strain, but with natural receptivity. Their opening is an act of trust—trust that the light will nourish rather than harm them."
She places her hands on either side of your face, turning it gently toward the sun. "Let your growth be like this—natural, trusting, persistent. The light of awareness need not judge what it illuminates. It simply reveals what is, allowing transformation to occur through that revelation alone."
Feel her wisdom permeating your being, creating pathways for light to flow more freely. Remain in this connection for several minutes, breathing deeply.
Afterthought | Smuain Dheiridh
Take a moment to contemplate:
What parts of myself am I now ready to bring into the light of conscious awareness? How might I cultivate the flower's natural trust in the nourishing quality of light? In what ways can I allow my unique brightness to contribute to the web of light that connects all beings?
Closing Blessing | Beannachd Dheiridh
Tha mi a' toirt taing dhut, a Mhàthair na talmhainn,Airson do sholas agus do ghaol a tha sìor-fhàs.Mar a thionndaidheas gach blàth ris a' ghrèin,Mar sin tionndaidhidh mise ri fìrinn mo chridhe.Tha mi a' giùlan do dhealradh leam.
I give thanks to you, Mother of the earth,For your light and your ever-growing love.As each flower turns toward the sun,So will I turn toward the truth of my heart.I carry your radiance with me.
Extinguish the candle if lit, acknowledging that its light continues in another form. Touch the green leaves or sprouts, connecting with their natural wisdom of growth toward light. If you have a yellow or gold stone, hold it briefly, absorbing its solar qualities. Finally, look into the dish of water, seeing how it not only reflects light but is also transformed by it through evaporation—becoming one with the sky just as you become one with the light you contemplate.
Rise slowly, carrying the earth's illuminating wisdom within you. Know that on this twenty-first of March, as light begins its ascendancy in the annual cycle, you too can allow your inner light to grow in strength and reach—not through force but through the same natural turning toward brightness that guides every plant and creature in spring's expansive season.
